When Charles Darwin was on board HMS Beagle, he no doubt imagined a cake like this being made to honor him. This globe-shaped cake, with geologically accurate layering of the planet's inner features, was made for Darwin's 191st birthday, and illustrated the historic voyage of the Beagle (1831-1836). This pastry materpiece was demolished when tectonic instability caused Australia to drop off the face of the earth.
